How to Manufacture High Density Graphite Blocks?

A way to manufacture various desired sizes graphite blocks is provided. And the purity of the high density graphite blocks is over 99% carbon. These graphite blocks are achieved by mixing graphite flakes of any size with graphene oxide sheets and making the mixture to elevated temperature and pressure. By means of this way, we can economically and fast achieve large graphite blocks. Meanwhile, the graphite blocks of this invention have superlubricity characters.

 

There are 2 areas of density variation for graphitized blocks as the binder content increases from 18 to 25 wt.%, in the first, as for pressed blocks, the density increases. The maximum density is observed with a binder content of 22 wt.%. On further increase in the content (second area), there is difference from the pressed blocks in that the density of the graphite is reduced, while the structural inhomogeneity increases. Except for an increase in bulk shrinkage as the binder content increases there is even a tendency for it to be reduced, even if the large increase in mass loss on heat treatment.

A radical way of achieving high density fine-grained graphites for large graphite blocks is the shaping of fine-grained coke-pitch compositions promptly after mixing, for example, at elevated temperatures. It does not need high pressures, the laborious and polluting operations as cooling the mass after mixing with subsequent crushing, reducing to fine powder, and pressing.
